2008 = 10 races, 3 PR's, 1 first place in age division

I started running in 2006 at age 38/39.  I figured the best way to kick the smoking habit for good was to sign up for a marathon.  (I tend to be alittle extreme)

My first full marathon was the Chicago Marathon 2006 (cold, rainy year) 5:00

Full Marathons: Chicago, Kentucky Derby

Half Marathons:  Indy, Chicago Distance Classic (3 times cool medal), Holy Half (Notre Dame), IU's Inaugural, Joker's Wild (St Louis), Oak Brook Half (ugly medal),Valparaiso Mini, Flying Pig, Virginia Beach Rock N Roll  Times ranging from 2:30 to 2:00.

 

Short-Term Running Goals:

I really would like to qualify for Boston in 2009. 

 

Personal:

I'm married to an incredible guy, Brian for 20 years (21 in May)!!  We have an amazing 17 year old (soon to be 18) daughter, Heather.  The two are my support system and cheerleaders.

Walked/slow run with a non-running friend in the hills of Alabama.  It was very warm and humid. We didnt have much time but managed to squeeze it in.  I hope this will help kick start her into exercising again.

Tonight was a walk/run mix with more walking than running.  I was on a motorcycle traveling back from Alabama to Indiana for  15 hours yesterday. It was a long day and no time to exercise so I needed to do something.  Plus got new shoes including switching brands so thought I break them in easy.

Ran around the lake w Jen. It turned really hot and humid today. We stopped at one time around (3.1 mi). The weather goes from one extent to the other. No transition time for body to adjust. Grrrr

What a great day for a run!  I tried pushing my pace alittle. Here's the results:  1.5 miles = 10:58 approx a 1 minute rest (walked in circles) then return was at a slightly slower pace 1.5 miles 11:52.

Ran w Jen flat route.  Today was definately work. No aches and pains. Just the thick air.  I told her about this blog, because she'd like to qualify for Boston too (just missed it her first time around).  Hot/Humid/Windy

I may go back out tonight when it cools down. (Now there's severe thunderstorms moving through will have to wait and see)

Ran with Jen after work. 88 degrees and what felt like 100 mile an hour winds for a third of the adventure.  Felt like I was running in place.  But chunked away and managed to get the miles in.  Jens a faster runner which is great because I think it'll help me speed up.

School Block walk very little run 4 miles. Then 2 additional miles w Brian to watch my stride/posture.  School block was meant to be a run but couldnt get my legs to go. Sharp pain in left calf and lower back of right leg going from calf to ankle.  Not sure what's going on. I've had 3 days off, warmed up with 1 mile walk (unusual for me), light stretching after warm up, did not even have the chance to run fast, weather was cool.  No soreness when I walked except the broken spirits.  After the 4 mile *walk*, was home approx. 15 minutes went back out with Brian to explain/demonstrate what was going on and actually felt alittle better and was able to slowly run.

Kesling Park Track:  walk .25 run 1.75 walk 1.  Still having issues with stomach/leg pain. Better than last night

It felt great to be back out in Rolling Prairie. Ran w Greg & Rick & Jen. I slowed my pace and actually enjoyed to run (it also helped not to have the pains I've been having). Even though I was the last one to come in it was one of the best runs I've had in a long time and someone has to be last.

Greg, Jen & I ran in Rolling Prairie.  Jen already had 8 miles in her (good job Jen!!).  Ran between 6 1/2 and 7 miles.  Felt really good, whatever funk I was in may be over. Yay!!!

a.m. Beautiful morning... ran to Long Lane and back. Great run.  Plan to run after work tonight.

p.m.  Ran school block, encountered another dog.  It's aggrevating, this is my third route I'll have to change or be skiddish.  They never bothered me until recently one bit me and put a hole in my pants when I was biking.

Traveled home today on motorcycle so alittle sore.  Started off just going to walk...did 2.25 miles on treadmill at incline vary from 1.5 to 7.5, 4.2 mph.  Couldn't stay focused thinking of all the stuff I should be doing, (like unpacking, getting ready for work tomorrow etc). Brian decided to go to gym to workout, I went along and ran home 5 miles. Felt Great... not sure why it took me so long to get in the mood to run.  Really glad I did.  Felt like I accomplished something today.
